Now this is more like it! WIRED speaks to this issue of color preference relative to technology and our choice of "feminine" (pink and sparkly) gadgets. Read it here

This article is entitled What Do Women Want? Less Pink, More Tech (by Nicole Martinelli-09.10.07). It looks at a study that says bring on the tech gear, but don't make it girly. The article states that's only 9 percent of young women want products that "look feminine," like a pink Playstation or Hello Kitty keyboards. The remaining 91 percent of us seek something sleek and sophisticated. It states that we want the boardroom look rather than the teenage bedroom. The data comes from a study, done by the advertising firm Saatchi & Saatchi, of 750 British women age 24 to 45. It is about time!!!

Are we really all about pink?

I just read this article in the Independent entitled "Boys like blue, girls like pink - it's in our genes" (By Steve Connor, Science Editor Published: 21 August 2007). It states that scientists have found that women tend to prefer pink - or at least a redder shade - while men prefer blue, and that the gender difference may be down to genes rather than upbringing. See the article for yourself at http://news.independent.co.uk/sci_tech/article2881412.ece

Although this claim makes some interesting points, I fail to believe that the fact that we are swathed in pink the moment we are born and frequently thereafter has nothing to do with it. Personally, I have never had a strong attraction to the color. When shown color swatches, men chose blue as a favorite more frequently! Oh, come on....it is the macho thing to do, isn't it. If you were a man and preferred pink, would you tell?
