Cinderella's not dependent, she's exploited. These stories weren't "written by men", they were collected from folk tales, and then published. Don't you know the folk lore behind them? If you did, you'd be able to tell them and put them in context (1st mom dies, kids at mercy of step-mom, typical in older cultures).
